Learning Targets At the end of these nine weeks, your grades will reflect your level of mastery of following topics.
Language: Subject/Predicate Sentence Types Nouns
Vocabulary: Content area words, vocabulary from novels, Readers Notebook weekly words, common misspelled words, vocabulary from informational text, homophones, homonyms, and figurative language
Writing: Narrative: Focus on the writing process (prewrite, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing)
Creative: Short stories
Reading: Short texts – may include short stories, folklore, songs, poetry, myths, and informational text (articles from magazines, databases, and newspapers)
Extended texts: Freak the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick
Informational text: Time for Kids Research: One major research project is assigned each nine weeks that focus on research skills, Cornell notes, MLA citation, outlines, use of databases, primary/secondary sources
Speaking/Listening: Class discussion, journal share, summarizing text, presentations, speeches, and following directions
